Set in the walled garden of the monastery park, the arboretum largely dates back to the redevelopment of the grounds by GF in the 1950s. The tree collection comprises around 60 species from Europe, Asia and North America.
Once a month, experts will be giving guided tours of this unique collection of trees.
- May 30, 10am: Urs Weibel, curator of nature at the Museum zu Allerheiligen: "Bäume als Lebensräume"
- June 27, 10am: Christopher Zoller-Blundell, librarian at the Iron Library: "Vom Hortus conclusus zum Hortus apertus: ein historischer Spaziergang durch das Arboretum im Klostergut".
- July 25, 10am: Nicolai Preiser, tree care specialist at Grimm Gardeners: "Arboretum erleben – Herausforderungen in der Kontrolle, Pflege und Erhalt wertvoller Baumbestände".
- August 29, 10am: Michèle Büttner, botanist, Flora Department of the Canton of Schaffhausen: "Bäume, die die Welt veränderten".
- September 26, 10am: Simon Pachera, district forester, Lower Thurgovian Forest District: "Die einheimischen Baumarten als Kernbestand des Arboretums".
The tours will be held in German, free of charge, no registration required, and in all weather conditions.
