About this tree

Picea abies “Ohlendorfii” is a cultivar of the Norway spruce, characterized by its unique weeping form. This evergreen tree typically reaches a height of 10–20 m, with cascading branches that give it a dramatic, elegant appearance. The tree retains the same characteristic green needles and long, cylindrical cones of the standard Picea abies, but the weeping branches create a distinct visual effect that is highly sought after in ornamental landscapes. This weeping effect is a result of a genetic mutation, which has been propagated through careful cultivation. It is a tree that is therefore rarely found in the wild and mostly in parks such as the Klostergut Arboretum.
