About this tree

Chamaecyparis nootkatensis “Pendula”, or weeping Nootka cypress, is a cultivar of the Nootka cypress, native to the coastal regions of North America, particularly Alaska and British Columbia. This evergreen tree, which typically grows 5–8 m tall, has dark green needles with a blue-grey tint on the underside and a distinct weeping form, with drooping, pendulous branches that create a dramatic, cascading effect. The weeping Nootka cypress produces small, round cones that are a popular food source for the Klostergut’s squirrels and small birds. The tree’s flowers also attract bees. This relatively slow-growing species can live for many decades.
