The Wikipedia Workshop is an introductory course in working with Wikipedia. Each course lasts 30 minutes and will be repeated as necessary during the day. Afterwards you can write your first entries in existing Wikipedia articles.

We recommend opening your own Wikipedia user account a few days before the Workshop.

We also recommend obtaining a little information in advance from the Wikipedia help pages. You'll find the most important tips for beginners at Wikipedia:Tutorial.

The course will be conducted by an experienced Wikipedian, who will provide advice and help at the workplaces. Newbie Wikipedians have the opportunity to exchanges techniques, tips and tricks with the "old hands". The Iron Library's premises will be open the whole day for research and for work on Wikipedia articles. You can digitize documents yourself on a scanner and either upload them to the Wikimedia Commons media platform. You can also upload your own photographs if you wish.

The Iron Library will provide refreshments (beverages, sandwiches, cakes).

Given the range of the collections in the GF Archive and the Iron Library, it makes good sense to contribute articles to Wikipedia on topics such as

  • biographies
  • history of GF
  • history of Schaffhausen
  • history of technology
  • metallurgy
  • history of mining
  • history of science
  • history of industries and economic history.

We will soon publish a list of concrete suggestions for new Wikipedia articles or for additions to existing articles here.
