Johann Conrad Fischer (1773-1854), a pioneer during the Industrial Revolution and founder of GF, traveled far and wide. He covered more than 30,000 kilometers from his journeyman's trek to Scandinavia at the age of 19 to his last trip to the Great Exhibition in London 60 years later. In seven journaly, he reported on his experiences, technological discoveries and social contacts.
For Fischer's 250th birthday, the Iron Library is realizing a digital edition of his travel journals. In them, we have identified 2400 people, places, events and terms - 2400 insights into the early days of modernity. We present a selection of these in the exhibition: books, faces, and evidence of the Industrial Revolution, which shaped the world through which Fischer traveled.
