Where would Aristotle be without Ibn Ruschd?
Manuscript from the Iron Library in the "Europe in the Renaissance" exhibition
The oldest manuscript in the Iron Library not only contains texts by Aristotle and Albertus Magnus but also by Ibn Rušd – known in the West by the name Averroës (1126–1198). Ibn Ruschd was a physician and philosopher born in Córdoba in the part of Spain known in the Middle Ages as Al-Andalus. With his commentaries on Aristotle's writings he furthered the rediscovery of the Greek philosopher in Europe during the Middle Ages.
This is the reason why our manuscript is right now on loan to the major exhibition "Europe in the Renaissance" that the Landesmuseum Zurich (part of the Swiss National Museum) is currently showing. Take advantage of this great opportunity to experience the manuscript along with many other impressive exhibits in the brand new wing of the Landesmuseum.
The exhibition runs until November 27, 2016. The manuscript will return to its display case in the Iron Library in January 2017.
