Open Pre-Conference Lecture: Frank Dittmann "Strom und Sicherheit - eine lange Geschichte" on November 16

To continue with the long tradition of the Iron Library's History of Technology Conference, an open public lecture will be held on November 16 2023 in cooperation with the Vortragsgemeinschaft Schaffhausen. The lecture this year, "Strom und Sicherheit – eine lange Geschichte" (Electricity and safety – a long history), will be given by Frank Dittmann of the German Museum in Munich.

While electricity and gas are considered very safe forms of energy today, around 1900 their protagonists accused each other of the accident potential of the other technology. The lecture looks at the intensive efforts of the electricity industry in particular over the last 100 years to minimise or eliminate danger to life and limb through technical and organisational measures. 

Frank Dittmann studied electrical engineering and did his doctorate in the history of technology. He then worked in various museums and has been curator at the Deutsche Museum in Munich since 2005, responsible for the departments of power engineering, heavy current technology and automation.

An apéro riche will be offered after the lecture.
