Last Sunday, Andreas Müller, CEO of GF and Chairman of the Iron Library Foundation, officially inaugurated the anniversary exhibition “From Covent to Cloud” during a matinee. As of now, the Iron Library warmly welcomes everyone to visit the exhibition. You still have the opportunity to do so until 19 July 2019.
“From Convent to Cloud“: this was the title of the atmospheric matinee at Klostergut Paradies last Sunday on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the Iron Library Foundation. The matinee set the scene both for the vernissage of the new art guide on the Paradies Convent, and for the opening of a special exhibition at the Iron Library. Andreas Müller, CEO of GF, opened the matinee and emphasized the significance of the Iron Library for the corporate culture and the historical tradition of GF. In a panel discussion chaired by Hildegard Keller, the top-class speakers Peter Niederhäuser, medieval historian, Christoph Flüeler, head of e-codices, and Oliver Thiele, city librarian of Schaffhausen, discussed medieval book production and the challenges that libraries face in the digital age.
The Iron Library was founded 70 years ago on 31 December 1948 at the initiative of GF director Ernst Müller. From 6 May until 19 July 2019, the anniversary exhibition displays the highlights of the collection and explains the materials and techniques behind the production of books. Furthermore, it reveals the provenance of selected holdings and looks ahead to the digital future of the library!
At the same time, the exhibition searches for traces of the former convent library. For the first time in almost 500 years, several vibrant manuscripts from the former convent of Poor Clares are back for a visit at Paradies from their “exile” in Schaffhausen.
