Wikipedia Workshop 2018

Wikipedia Writers’ Workshop at the Iron Library, 23 June 2018, 10am – 6pm

Wikipedia Workshop

As part of the exhibition "100 years of GF at Klostergut Paradies", the Iron Library and the GF Corporate Archive are organizing a Wikipedia Writers' Workshop. The Wikipedia Workshop is an introductory course in working with Wikipedia. Afterwards you can write your first Wikipedia articles.

The Wikipedia Writers' Workshop will be held at the Iron Library on 23 June, 10am - 6pm. The Corporate Archive invites any interested persons to contribute to expanding the Wikipedia content on the history of Georg Fischer Ltd in Schaffhausen and on the history of Klostergut Paradies. The Iron Library can offer abundant resources for Wikipedia articles in areas such as the history of technology, mining, metallurgy and so on. Even if you're a newbie with no experience in creating such content, you are cordially welcome to join in.

Courses and participation

Wikipedia-Werkstatt

The Wikipedia Workshop is an introductory course in working with Wikipedia. Each course lasts 30 minutes and will be repeated as necessary during the day. Afterwards you can write your first entries in existing Wikipedia articles.

We recommend opening your own Wikipedia user account a few days before the Workshop.

We also recommend obtaining a little information in advance from the Wikipedia help pages. You'll find the most important tips for beginners at Wikipedia:Tutorial.

Research and working

Wikipedia Workshop

The course will be conducted by an experienced Wikipedian, who will provide advice and help at the workplaces. Newbie Wikipedians have the opportunity to exchanges techniques, tips and tricks with the "old hands". The Iron Library's premises will be open the whole day for research and for work on Wikipedia articles. You can digitize documents yourself on a scanner and either upload them to the Wikimedia Commons media platform. You can also upload your own photographs if you wish.

Refreshments

The Iron Library will provide refreshments (beverages, sandwiches, cakes).

Suggestions for topics

Wikipedia Workshop

Given the range of the collections in the GF Archive and the Iron Library, it makes good sense to contribute articles to Wikipedia on topics such as

  • biographies
  • history of GF
  • history of the Poor Clare convent and of the Klostergut Paradies
  • history of Schaffhausen
  • history of technology
  • metallurgy
  • history of mining
  • history of science
  • history of industries and economic history.
